During my third meeting with my uncle we talked about the importance of honesty and integrity in business. We talked about how this is one of the most important qualities to have in business and how it translates into success for you and your company. We dove into the importance of integrity and doing the right thing, because it is the right thing to do. In the business world we cannot always control everything that goes on but what we can control is our response and sticking to our values. My uncle was able to really give me some clear examples in his work history where he had to stick to his word, be honest, and match his actions with his words even though it was not always easy. As the owner of a company my uncle sets the standards and he must show his employees that his words mean something. Because my uncle's employees know they can count on his words, it gives them the confidence to carry out their duties knowing they won't be cheated out of any promise my uncle gave them.
Coach Swider always talks about the importance of integrity during football meetings and how no one can take your integrity away from you. All you can do is give it away yourself. He challenges us to apply this in our friendships, our relationships, and in any promise we make in life. It was great getting to talk to my uncle to see how integrity works within the business world and to hear about stories where keeping integrity caused great success within a company and also hearing the other side of how not keeping integrity has caused many divisions within a company. It has been great getting to share what my uncle has been teaching me and I am excited to hear what my uncle has for me next week.
Chase, I think it is good to have a talk about integrity. Many people in the business world think it is okay to switch on certain topics and where they lie, just to advance themselves within the business. Having a standard that you can hold yourself to you can make it known to potentially customers that you will be committed to helping them succeed and not just your own personal profit. Like you said for sports it is important to have integrity because there are more to sports than just winning or losing. Great post.
ReplyDeleteHi Chuck,
ReplyDeleteThe importance of integrity cannot be understated. It can be very hard to choose to do the right thing when there's a clear incentive to do so. However, we are called to live differently and living with integrity is one of the best Christian witnesses we can have in the workplace. Great reminder.
Thanks Chuck,
David
