In my previous post, I mentioned my desire to work in the PE space. However, having a goal is simply not enough to jumpstart a career. Direction is needed to make the right steps for a specific career choice and Eric has proved invaluable in that respect. When we last spoke several weeks ago, he advised me to continue to build up a personal network of people in the private equity, asset management, and investment banking areas of finance. Building relationships with professionals within the specific area of finance that I am passionate about is critical for receiving practical career advice as well as creating a personal network with which to upstart my career. Our conversation regarding networking obviously lended itself to a discussion regarding the importance of using LinkedIn effectively. LinkedIn is a powerful resource and Eric stressed the necessity of having a professional profile that effectively communicates my strengths, experiences, and passions.
As someone who likes to plan my life and often stresses out over the slightest details that might prove to be a hitch in my plan, I struggle with the concept of God’s providence and plan for my life. Eric just emphasized the importance of giving up the idolatry of my future into the hands of God. This challenge has been a struggle of mine and is something that I have consciously made a point of giving up to God daily. As two very ambitious people, we commiserated over this mutual struggle and the affect it has had on our relationship with God.
