After the first conversation with my mentor, I realized that
I have learned a lot from him already, but I have so much more to learn. The
second meeting with my dad took place a couple of months ago.
My dad has an office in Wheaton, which makes opportunities
to meet very easy.
At this meeting we went out to eat with one another and
spoke about the future. I was looking
into various internships for the summer and began to be somewhat stressed for
the upcoming months and years. I was
overwhelmed with internship applications and figuring out what I should do with
my life.
My dad encouraged me to listen for God’s voice and make sure
it is his. He talked about listening to the voice of God is my head. There can
sometimes be many voices in our head and it can be easy to get lost. We must be focused on listening for the voice
of God. We need to be able to know the
voice and not be strangers to it. He
explained how John 10:27-28 states that we must obedient sheep to God, “My
sheep listen to my voice; I know the, and they follow me. I give them eternal
life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.”
This was powerful for me during this time because it reminded me that I must
live for Christ and obey His commands.
My dad reminded me that there are imitators of God’s voice, and we must
flee from those voices. I need to let
scripture use me. He said that I must
consume God’s word and let it be in the melody of my mind. He also talked about the passage in Jeremiah
29:11, which states, “‘for I know the plans I
have for you,’ declares the Lord,
‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a
future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will
listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all
your heart.” This reminded me that I am
a part of God’s plans. God will open and
close doors for my life depending on His will. My dad supported and told me I
must be fully devoted to God and His purpose will be done in my life. It
makes me think about the questions…. Who are you listening to and what is the
hope you are chasing?
Hey Caleb, it sounds like your dad is a cool guy. It is awesome that he is so close to you at school so you can still meet with him in person and get his advice. It is cool that he could give you fresh hope through the Bible as well as through his fatherly wisdom.
ReplyDeleteCaleb,
ReplyDeleteLove hearing this post about your Dad. I really enjoyed meeting him and getting to know more about him and his family when we last met. This is very cool that he is emphasizing listening to the Lord, and constantly reminding you that God is going to direct your paths. Continue to trust in Him and listen to His Word.
