Paul has been very impactful in my life, especially in trying to navigate career decisions about my future. He has been very good about getting me connected with different alumni that I may be interested in shadowing or interviewing with in hopes of an internship over a summer or fall season. Thanks to Paul, I have been able to keep in contact with several alumni that work in tech startups, consulting, and finance.
Recently, I explained to Paul that I'm interested in pursuing a career in sales/business development. I love being able to work with people and I love the risk and adventure aspect of working with a startup, and the entrepreneurial spirit. Paul was very quick to put me in contact with several Wheaton alumni and friends of his that are working in those fields currently. He was very encouraging, and explained that several of the qualities that I have as a person would make me a good candidate for a career in sales.
My favorite thing about Paul is that I'm always encouraged to keep seeking the Lord in everything that I'm doing. With a career in business, it is very easy to come at a perspective that is solely committed to profitability. He has encouraged me to think and live generously with my resources that I have. I am looking forward to meeting with him again in the future.
Wow, Chris. It sounds like you got yourself a gem of a mentor. Having a mentor so far away seems like it would be a struggle but you seem to make it work. Having a mentor with such great connections seems like it would be really beneficial to you for the summers as well the future concerning you career. Just from the way you are describing him, it really seems like he has some qualities worth copying! The fact the he is a mentor for you both spiritually and vocationally is a really great combination.
