Last Wednesday, I met with my mentor here is Wheaton, Greg. Because Greg works at the Trust Company of Illinois, he is able to take time off work for breakfast and lunch meetings a lot. He is a regular at Egg Harbor, and its very evident that he is well respected there by the employees and the other breakfast and lunch regulars.
Greg's wife recently had a baby, so the majority of our time was spent talking about her. Because they were in the first few weeks of their baby's birth, Greg and Carly have not been getting much sleep in the past couple weeks. He went on to explain that after his daughter's birth, they had to go downtown Chicago to a hospital down there, due to several birth complications. Thankfully there is nothing serious with some of his daughter's health complications. However, he was definitely worn out from the stress of it all. I'm very thankful for how he was willing to take time out of his very busy schedule to meet with me.
It had been several weeks since we had last met. This time, we talked a bit more about career choices. His background is in working as a wholesaler at a local ETF firm. After I told him about my desire to pursue a career in sales/business development, he was quick to give me a lot of good advice. One of the points that he was very good about emphasizing was that sales is not an easy job. It is very hard to start the day at "zero" and try to work at sales. He did say that he does love the relationship aspect, especially since the products that he offered were high quality products that helped his customers.
Because I do not have a cell phone, Greg and I keep in touch mostly via email. In all of his emails he is always expressing how thankful he is to meet with me. I love getting to hear more about his life each time we get to meet. In one of his most recent emails, he told me that at some point in the near future he wants to have me over to meet his wife and family. I'm very thankful for how he pushes me to follow Jesus more and more each day.
