Ziesemer #3

This past weekend I was able to meet with my dad.  He had several words of encouragement as I approach the last week of classes and then exams.  One of the best things about having my dad as a mentor is the amount of encouragement he gives me.  One of the important aspects of having a mentor is being vulnerable with them and being able to share struggles and weaknesses.

This past weekend we opened our discussion talking about sports.  We both agreed that the bulls are in trouble and might go 0-4 to close out their series with Boston.  We also talked about the cubs up and down start to the season and some of the issues they could run into as well.

We also discussed the future and my last two years of college.  We talked about where my involvement and priorities should be in my final two years.  I am hoping to possible have an internship next Fall or Spring so he helped me network with some local people.  Currently, I am still trying to determine what industry I would like to be in when I graduate.  My dad has been able to help guide me in finding an industry that fits my passions and abilities.

Last, my dad gave me spiritual encouragement as well.  This summer I will be going on to the Holy Lands for six weeks.  My dad encouraged me to be prayerful before I go and be thankful for the privilege I have of going on this trip.  My dad tells me he prays for me daily and that is something I am very thankful for that I have in a mentor.

  1. Phil,

Thank you for sharing. I think its wonderful that you have such a great relationship with your dad. Its cool that you guys share a passion for Chicago sports and are able to bond over that love. Your dad was absolutely right about praying, as this is something both my father and mentor encourage me to do. By you praying, you'll be able to bless your future trip. Enjoy that trip to the Holy Lands!

  2. Phil,

Great post about your Dad, really enjoyed reading it. Being able to be vulnerable and open with your parents is a blessing, I'm glad that you're able to take advantage of something like that. I hope that your Dad is able to shed a lot of insight as to what industry to go into after graduation.
