I was just home for Easter which was really nice. It's always good to see the family in person instead of through FaceTime or over the phone. I didn't really ever sit down and talk with my dad as I was only there for three days but most of our conversation was the kind that occurs when you're doing something like working on a truck, just casual conservation.
He did, however, bring up something that really struck a chord with me. I had been telling him that he needs to read Wild at Heart by John Eldredge. He said he has read parts but not the whole thing. But he is very familiar with John Eldredge and said that there is a movie coming out soon that Eldredge and some close friends (maybe his sons too) made about themselves going on a cross country motorcycle trip when none of them had any previous motorcycle experience. He showed me a trailer for the movie and it included a quote that really struck me. The quote was "If your life was a story, would it be worth reading?"
I don't want to get to the end of my life and have any regrets. We are only here for a short time, a blink of an eye, and I believe God wants us to take every opportunity we have to follow our heart, whatever it may be. My dad talked about this in relation to what I'll be doing after college and I have a very good idea of what I'll be doing and to say the least I will be taking a leap of faith. I'm glad my dad showed that to me because it only reinforced my decision. I would encourage all y'all to really think about this because before we know it, this life will be almost over. I for one want to take full advantage of it.
Benjamin,
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing that. My old Coach in middle school used to tell our team that same thing to us, "If your life was a story, would it be worth telling". I had forgotten that phrase up until now. It really drives home something deep inside me and reading this really made me think about my life up until this point and what I want my future to look like; more importantly what God has planned for my future. Thank you for the encouraging words and maybe we can go off roading this summer in our trucks.

Benjamin,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing. I really like the quote you shared;"If your life was a book, would it be worth reading?" This is super powerful. It helps solidify my faith and reinforces what i believe in. Not only that but it inspires me to live life to the fullest every single day. God created us to bring Him glory. Life is too short to not live it out to the fullest. Also, i would love to hear about your career path after college. Thanks again for sharing.

Ben,
ReplyDeleteThis post has motivated me to be more actively looking for opportunities to exercise faith in my life. That quote that you shared really makes me think about how different my life would be if I lived as if someone were reading it. This is not something that I have thought about before so thank you for sharing these motivational words.
