Mentor Blog #2
This past weekend I was able to return home for my brothers wedding, which turned out great because I had a lot of time to be at home and talk to my dad. My dad and I were both occupied with getting things set up for the wedding because it was on our dairy and during this preparation we were able to have many good conversations. One that stood out to me the most was when he mentioned how proud of us boys he was. He commented on us making smart decisions, following through with school and other things of that sort. It felt good to have that support from my dad and to make him happy. To be at a point in my life where my dad looks at me as an equal and as a man I feel like we can have more meaningful conversation, its more advice than correction. Instances came up through the weekend where I felt that was present. As my father, and as a mentor I hope this continues, I feel real growth will continue to happen if it continues on like this.
Hey Owen, it is really cool to see how your relationship with your dad is changing as you get older. It is awesome that you guys have reached a point where he can look at you like an equal. It will be interesting how your relationship with your dad continues to develop as you graduate college and start working on the farm again.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you were able to see your family and have great conversation with them. It's so reassuring when a parent opens us about feelings and expectations they have towards us. It's not always easy for people to make comments like that but when it needs to be said it means a lot and especially when it's from someone who you look up to. I'm happy to hear about the growth in the relationship that your guys have experienced and I hope that it can continue growing for you!
