I am so thankful for having my Dad in my life. I thank The Lord that I am able to have such a great relationship with my parents and siblings because many people don’t have good relationships with their family. My Dad has been such a great mentor in my life and had taught me so much. We recently talked about my future. I brought my future up because it is one thing that worries me and gives me anxiety since I do not know what I am going to do with my life once I graduate. I came into Wheaton as an education major and thought I was going to be a teacher/basketball coach just like my father. I then realized I didn’t want to teach so I switched majors to bus/econ.  I don’t know much about the business world and almost everyone in my family is involved in education. I am scared that I will not find something I enjoy to do in the business world and that I made a mistake switching majors. It can be very stressful at times looking forward into the unknown future. My Dad however keeps me grounded. He is a great encourager and reminded me that God has a plan for my life. I might not know what His plan is, but it is God’s sovereign plan and I shouldn’t worry too much about the future. “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble” - Mathew 6:34. My Dad even talked about how my brother was offered a job that would take him out of Georgia and away from the family. My family basically all live together. All my siblings are married and starting their families. They all live within 30 minutes of each other in Georgia. My Dad absolutely loves having all his children so close to home. He was very against my brother leaving home for a situation that wasn’t really better. However he told me about this job opportunity because he thought that it would be something I enjoyed with people I would love to be around. My Dad would hate it if I didn’t come back to Georgia after I graduated but he was still very supportive of helping me find my vocation even if that took me away from home. I am very thankful for his support and guidance.

  1. Zach this is a great blog entry. Its great that you and your father are very close. I recently wrote an entry about my concern for the future and and hashing that out with my Dad, the similarities are pretty funny. I think that we are very fortunate to have God fearing, loving fathers in our lives. The bible verse you mentioned was something that I really need see this morning, what a great reminder to not get ahead of ourselves and focus on the task at hand. Thanks for a great blog entry.

  2. Zach,
This post really spoke to me. Mathew 6:34 is perfect for the scenario you are in and many other people are in including me. I would keep looking towards Him when you are in doubt and keep talking to your dad. He is a wise man

  3. Zach,
I am glad that you have chosen to have your Dad as your mentor. When I visited your house a few summers ago and met your family, one thing that struck me was how similar you and your Dad are. This is a compliment to the both of you. I know you will continue to seek your Dad's insight, which is smart. A fathers wisdom is always good guidance.

  4. Zach, as I mentioned in previous posts, I think that having your dad as your mentor adds something to the relationship. I feel like the verse your dad suggested is really helpful and is applicable to a lot of situations that we face. Your dad seems to have a lot of good information and advice for you!
