Hello all,
Last week I met with Dr. Bacote in the "inner sanctum" (the back room where all of the faculty get to eat and think they are super cool) of Anderson Commons. Actually, I was dropping my car off at the Midas just down yonder and I completely forgot that I was meeting the ole Doc for lunch. Someone remind me I still need to get my car fixed! I ended up being about 12 minutes late, but Dr. Bacote was still happy to see me.
We got our food and immediately entered into a conversation about who is the greatest basketball player of all time. The conversation trailed to who was tougher, Michael Jordan or LeBron James. I made my case for LeBron in both circumstances with some pretty solid points:
1. LeBron has played more minutes than Michael
2. LeBron put an NBA franchise on his back and was leading them to The Finals at 22 while Jordan at 22 was beating college scrubs
3. There are many other reasons but I won't get into all of that right now
Anyways, our conversation changed from things that really didn't matter to things of the utmost importance. We started reading from the book of Colossians, something that we still haven't been able to go through in its totality for almost 2 years (its like 4 chapters lol). We focussed on chapter 2 verses 11-14 which I encourage you to read if you have the time. We had a great chat about what it truly means to live out these verses. It was really helpful to share some of my struggles with Dr. Bacote and for him to immediately respond with truth from scripture to ease my soul. Dr. Bacote is continuing to encourage me to live in the Word of God and trust in the Lord's plans no matter what.
Thank you for you time,

Luke,
ReplyDeleteMost people say thank you for posting this, so I will not do that. Since I have met the already met the required posts, this post shall focus solely on debunking your flawed conclusion of Lebron over Jordan.
1. Jordan played in six NBA finals, and won six Finals. Lebron has won three Finals, but has lost four Finals (losing record in Finals series.
2. Jordan overcame his rivals (Bird, Magic, Isaiah Thomas and the Bad Boys Pistons, Reggie Miller, the Jazz, and the Cavs lol. Lebron has now twice sought out a Big three (Wade, Bosh, and himself). What did Lebron say to the Heat fans? Not one, not two, not three... He is the classic NBA fan on twitter - overconfident.
3. Jordan retired missed out on two years that would have been potentially two of the best years in his career, and still finished as the fourth All-Time leading scorer (6095 points behind Lou Al-Cinder, which he would have scored in the two years in the prime of his career that he gave up).
Lebron has been to six straight Finals and seven overall, also he is on pace to be among top all-time leading scores, assist leaders, and even reasonably high in rebounds. Lebron is a stat sheet extraordinaire, and in my mind, the SECOND best player of all-time until he wins a six, maybe just a fifth title.
Like Peyton Manning, he has won titles, holds records, and will be an all-time stat leader. However, when it comes to winning the big game and just being unbeatable at his best, Jordan is THE guy.
Btw, Lebron's cramps against the Spurs when the Heat won, were so fake.

ReplyDeleteGrant.
ReplyDeleteI did not want to get into exactly why Bron is GOAT.
My initial argument was that Bron is tougher than Jordan. More minutes, more games, no emotional breaks, no leaving the game of basketball. Jordan's baseball career is enough to say that he is not the greatest of all time.
1. Jordan joined the league when all of those legends were NOT IN THEIR PRIME.
2. JORDAN IS A COACH KILLER
3. JORDAN TOOK MILLIONS MORE SHOTS THAN BRON
4. JORDANS BASEBALL CAREER
5. Why are we penalizing Bron for making it to 6 straight finals and 7 overall? Joran couldn't even do that.
6. Jordan could not have carried a team like Bron has numerous times in his career.
7. He had Scotty
8. JORDANS BASEBALL CAREER
Get off my post
Ok Clint Eastwood, but Pippen is no DWade or Kyrie.
DeleteIn all honestly I respect you so much. Like you, I share a passion for sports, movies, Battlefront, and many other things. You are a great basketball player, and I am a unknowledgeable basketball fan. I always enjoy your posts on your meetings with Dr. Bacote, as using our interests for discussion purpose is a great medium for understanding and evaluating the things of this world, and our relation as Christians with the world. While we must recognize that this world is not the ultimate reality, we should also recognize that being alive in this world is gift from God, and things such as basketball and sports discussions with a foolish man who has a bad sole patch.
ReplyDeleteI encourage you to use your knowledge and skill in basketball and other sports to relate to individuals, like Dr. Bacote does with you!
I have to admit, Lebron is the more talented, electric, and dominate basketball player between himself and Jordan. Additionally, I have great respect for how Lebron has matured in his personal life, beginning with marrying his long-time girlfriend and returning to Cleveland to win the long-awaited championship.
If Lebron wins a title this year, I would likely place him as the GOAT. If he wins two more, 5 total, he certainly should be considered by most as the GOAT. If he somehow found a way to win three more, there is no debate.
Grant,
ReplyDeleteThis class has truly brought us closer as friends. I look forward to more discussions of sports and life as we continue to do life. We should hang out soon.
Best,
L
